Do something cool against global warming
What is it all about?
From the 7th to the 18th of December, the UN climate talks COP 15 will take place in Copenhagen. While the declared aim for the conference is to agree on a protocol that will save Earth and humanity from the climate catastrophe, there are many signals that say that none of this will happen.
With the help of corporate lobbyists and of many governments of the planet, profit will be put in front of people, the market in front of the planet and false solutions will be sold as true ones.
And so what?
During the days of the conference, a wide and various global movement will converge to Copenhagen to discuss and protest the suicidal decisions taken inside the conference. There will be thousands of activists taking part in demonstrations, seminars, direct actions, art projects and many more. Therefore, there will be a strong need for an efficient set of infrastructures that can guarantee to all these activists a safe and warm place to sleep, efficient media centers, tasty and (yet again!) warm meals, convergence centers and a lot more.
Why are you talking to me about this?
Because there will be a huge need of volunteers taking care of info points and accommodation places, driving around, putting up posters and a lot more!
Why would I do it?
Without the help of hundreds of volunteers all the actions and demos that have been planned could not happen. Each and every one of us will take his or her own responsibilities, but we need to invite everybody that shares our concern for climate and opposes the false solutions of COP15 to do their bit. Volunteers are for this mobilization absolutely vital.
Cool. But so far it sounds quite boring…
There is also a fun part! Volunteering is a great way to get in touch with activists that have come from all over the planet to participate in the various activities. You’ll get in touch with new ideas, new cultures, make new friends and new experiences. Also, we’ll be setting up a volunteer coordination center where people can meet and chill out, and use it as a sort of lounge.
That doesn’t sound bad…
No, and there is more!
Every shift you take as a volunteer, you will get two meal coupons to be used in the people’s kitchens that will be set up around town. If you decide to get five shifts, instead of 10 food coupons you will receive 15, allowing you to eat for free for almost the entire COP period!
Also, we are organizing a huge party that will let us relax and say good bye till 2010 after the stress of two weeks of COP15, and that will take place on the 21st of December. Volunteers are entering for free to the party, while others will be asked a small entrance fee.
Cool! How do I do it then?
Just follow this link and fill in the “Volunteering Form”, we’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Also, don’t forget to invite your friends to join you: they would get the same experience, and you might enjoy yours even more if there is at least one person you already know!
