PRESS CONFERENCE: POLICING OF THE CLIMATE PROTESTS IN COPENHAGEN

PRESS CONFERENCE: POLICING OF THE CLIMATE PROTESTS IN COPENHAGEN
Today, 3pm at Raahuset

When & Where

At 3pm this afternoon at Raahuset(Onkel Dannys Plads) info point (near
the KlimaForum), Climate Justice Action, Via Campesina, Climate
Caravan and See You In Copenhagen will hold a press conference about
the events in Christiania last night (where police mounted a full
scale operation in and around a action mobilization party and climate
debate), and the general climate of police repression experienced by
activists during the COP15 summit.

Why

The press conference has been collectively called to denounce the
political policing seen on the streets of Copenhagen over the past few
days where over a thousand people have been locked into the “climate
prison”. “See you In Copenhagen”, a group which was present at the
Christiania debate and party last night believe that the tear gassing
and arrests of hundreds of people who were attending a political
debate and party is a clear example of the attacks on people
mobilizing for a real solution to climate change.

Who

Climate Justice Action is a network of organisations and individuals
from the Global South and North who are protesting in Copenhagen
against the failing UN process. CJA is organizing the “Reclaim Power”
mass action that will enter the UN area to hold a Peoples’ Assembly
for climate justice tomorrow. Via Campesina is the largest farmers’
movement in the world, calling for land sovereignty and relocalization
of food production. The Climate Caravan is a caravan that has
travelled from the WTO talks in Geneva to the UN climate talks in
Copenhagen to draw links between trade and climate change. See You In
Copenhagen is a network of Italian social centers, student networks
and groups such as Ya Basta! who have collectively mobilized for the
COP15 summit. They have 200 activists in Copenhagen, 84 of whom were
arrested last night in Christiania.
